What You Need Before You Build Your Website: A Helpful Checklist
Before we begin designing your website, it’s helpful to pause and reflect on what you’re creating — and why. Many of my clients arrive at this stage with a lot of ideas but no clear structure. That’s completely normal. This checklist is here to gently guide you toward clarity and make sure we build your site on a strong foundation.
Whether you’re working with a designer (like me) or building it yourself, these are the elements that help us create something truly aligned with your vision and your audience.
1. A clear, simple explanation of what you do
Can you describe who you help and how in one or two sentences? This helps ground your message and makes it easier for people to quickly understand the value of your work.
Tip: Imagine explaining it to someone at a dinner party — warm, informal, but specific.
2. A list of your main offerings
What do you want people to be able to book, buy, or learn more about? Whether it’s 1:1 coaching, group programs, workshops, or downloadable guides — we’ll need a clear structure for what you offer.
You don’t need perfect names or prices yet — just the core things you want to share.
3. Photos that feel like you
People connect through imagery. A few professional or high-quality personal photos can make a huge difference — especially ones that show your personality, workspace, or environment.
No need for perfection, just presence.
4. A short bio
Let your audience know who you are. This doesn’t have to be your full story, just a paragraph or two that shares your background, your values, and why you do what you do.
5. Social proof
If you’ve worked with clients, collect a few kind words or testimonials. These create trust and help future clients feel more confident in reaching out.
6. Visual inspiration
Are there websites or brands that resonate with you? Screenshots, Pinterest boards, or even colors and fonts you’re drawn to help define your visual direction.
